December 22, 2008 update

Christmas and New Year’s Greetings from Orange, Virginia!  It is hard to believe we are at the end of 2008.  But it is a wonderful reminder of the Lord’s strength and care that carried us through this year.

The year was a busy one at Grace Baptist Church.  We are thankful for the various ministries the Lord has allowed us to begin, like our first Easter Cantata, Vacation Bible School, a teen Sunday School class, and a week-long revival meeting.  We’re also thankful for ministries He allowed us to continue, like God and Country Day, Ladies and Men’s Fellowships, the music ministries, and the children’s classes.  We saw two people baptized, and several joined the church!  Our theme for this year was “Be Reasonable”, looking at Romans 12:1, 2.  Our people were challenged every other month at our observance of the Lord’s Supper to give their reasonable service to the Lord.

Annie joined the ministry of CBM (Children’s Bible Ministries) and is now the teacher of the Bible Class at the Orange Elementary School.  This is an amazing opportunity to reach public school children with the gospel. www.cbmofvirginia.org

We look forward to 2009, and the Lord’s help in continuing our outreach to the community.  Pray for visitors to attend, and for us to have boldness in opportunities to reach the lost.  Pray for us as we follow up on visitors who need a church family, and friends of our church family who need Christ.

February will be designated as “Missions Emphasis Month” with a special missionary speaker every Sunday.  Pray as we look towards increasing our missions offerings, and encouraging our people in their giving as a whole.

This new year will begin with making Missions, Music, Nursery, Usher Policies, etc.  Pray that we will have wisdom in guiding our folks in establishing God-honoring procedures to help our church continue to be Christ-like, organized and safe.

We did add at least one new faithful attender in 2008: our new daughter, Natalie Ann.  She was born October 17, and has been a blessing to our family and our church.  Braden (7) and Audrey (3) love their new sister, and continue to serve in the church in their own special ways.

Thank you for your prayers, encouragement and support throughout this past year.  We look forward to seeing the Lord work in great ways in 2009.  He is a faithful God!

Dear Supporting Churches,

Greeting in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who has made us fit for service in his kingdom. We praise God with all of you as we are approaching one year and five months of ministry here in the city of Tallahassee, Florida.

We can never thank God enough for his provisions, protection, and certainly the opportunity we have in sharing and reaching the lost for Christ and seeing them saved, baptized and assembled together in the service of the Local New Testament Church. But like any fledgling work we face challenges, particularly in this economic climate. So we thank the Lord for his faithfulness and your commitment of love, prayers, and financial support each month.

We are praying that you will experience a joy-filled Christmas, as we celebrate the birth of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, and that you will have a great New Year! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Please pray for:

  • A great moving of the Holy Spirit in God’s people.

  • Our monthly support.

  • Our focus and commitment to the work of God.

  • My family

  • Church finances

May the Lord continue to bless you and your ministry.

After a hard summer with losing some families, we knocked on almost 4000 doors for the month of September for our 1st anniversary service.  We had 45 in attendance (up from 25) for the 1st anniversary service and eight first-time visitors.  Five of those were from the local community.  Two have come back periodically.

I continue to knock on 300-500 doors weekly, but right now people seem to be slow or have no desire for church.  We are seeing very few visitors and have seen few since the beginning of summer. The ones we do see seem to really enjoy the services and say they will be back, but most do not return, this is hard for us and for our folks.

We continue to see folks saved each month and we baptized a young man and woman the first Sunday in October after hearing their professions of faith which was exciting.  The young woman has continued to come to church, but the young man has not.

Just last week I met a lady named Lois while door knocking who has lost her family and her job in the last year.  When I knocked on her door, it was as though she had been expecting me; she poured out her heart.  She came this last Sunday which was exciting, but I pray she will be back

God has been good, just paying the bills, both personally and for our fledgling church.  I feel like Job, not knowing what’s going on, but just being faithful to the Lord knowing He’s in control.

Dear Brothers,

Tonight we voted and took on four more missionaries bringing us to a total of seven!  Your prayers are being answered-- thank God, thank you and whatever you do...don't slow down!

God is indeed blessing this church re-plant with visitors, souls saved door to door and in church, and decisions are being made to live for God.  The Sunday AM service is now above 40 and the other services average about 18 people.

Recently I parked the car and gave my family a joyless pep talk about how I couldn't wait to finish the last door in this neighborhood.  I spent weeks of lonely door knocking with no one saved or interested.  An hour later, I noticed Amy lingering on a porch.  Naturally, being the spiritual giant that I am, I figured she was getting overly folksy with a backslidden Christian while countless others perished.  As I approached, a 50 year old man named Richard bowed his head and was asking Jesus to save him.  I'm such a worm!

Two weeks ago next to the Silver Spring Buddhist temple, I knocked on a door, Barbara answered and stood in her doorway while Quinn prayed.  She gave me four minutes to show her from the Bible that she can be saved and know it.  She thanked me, said good-bye and returned to tend to her fish dinner in the oven.  She came to church that Sunday, trusted Christ, brought her daughter and has been faithful ever since.

After 11 months of knowing Danny, I finally un-chickened out and asked this hardened 65 year old backwoods country boy if I could share the Gospel with him.  He said yes.  He's still mulling it over, I'm still a worm, but God is still on the throne!

October was a good month when Pastor Ron Titus (Cornerstone BC) brought a message out of Isaiah.  Five ladies were weeping and all got saved!

Since last report, Amy and Quinn got Lyme disease from a tick.  They took their medicine and seem to be fine.  Amy's now in her 3rd trimester.  I fell off a ladder and broke my arm, but half the outside of the church is now painted!

Lighthouse Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA (Pastor Bishop) has been helping us soul win.  Also, with little warning they recently broke into our church, brewed coffee and proceeded to repair our sidewalk, pour two giant cement wheelchair ramps, enclose our porch ceiling and install canister lights.  Be on the lookout!  The Lighthouse BC (Pastor Payne) in SE Wash D.C. and Hampshire View BC (Pastor Moorman) in Silver Spring did a tremendous job as their fine folks painted several difficult areas for us.

Thank you, all so much for your prayers and support.  It means more than you may know.

Praise the Lord all is going well in the ministry of Triumph Baptist Church.  This past Sunday our Children's Church ministered to us during the morning worship service.  It was wonderful for all of our adults to see how the children are growing in the Lord and walking in truth.  Sunday evening it was the Teens of Triumph's turn and what a blessing it was to have our teens lead the singing, receive the offering, and sing special music--all unto the Lord.  This coming Sunday we will be baptizing five who have personally trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and one who trusted the Lord some time ago, but is now ready to follow her Lord in believer's baptism.

Triumph continues to grow slowly according to God's perfect plan.  Please pray for us as we strive to make much needed improvements to the facility that we currently sub-lease. Recently we have done a great deal of cleaning and painting, and we were able to put new carpet into the Sunday School room that needed it most.  A man in our church donated the carpet and installed it!  The next project is to repair our broken air conditioning unit before we get into the summer months.

God is providing for us and we thank you for your prayers and for your support as we seek to fulfill the Great Commission--we could not do it without you.
